Police Officer

We are home to some of the finest medical facilities in the Southeast, restaurants to suit every taste, two beautiful parks and an historic downtown area. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs responsible police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Positions involve patrolling of assigned areas, accident and crime scene investigations, collection and preservation of physical evidence, follow-up investigations and special assignments for the purpose of the prevention of crime, apprehension of offenders and enforcement of laws and ordinances. Police officer must be able to act without the direct supervision using independent judgment and discretion in meeting emergency and non-emergency situations. Duties are performed in accordance with law and departmental directives. Work involves extensive public contacts and situations of personal danger. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a Sergeant.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge or the ability to acquire during reasonable period of training, knowledge of modern police practices and methods, applicable federal, state and local laws and ordinances, particularly the laws of arrest, search investigation; knowledge of the geography of the Town of Pineville, to include transportation routes, major buildings and residential areas; rules and directions of the Police Department and reporting procedures; ability to deal firmly and courteously with the public; ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper course of action to be taken; ability to react quickly and calmly during emergency situations; ability to obtain information through interviews and interrogation; ability to write and speak effectively; trainable in the use and care of firearms within a reasonable period of time; ability to exercise good judgment and emotional maturity under stressful conditions; ability to recognize potentially dangerous situations; ability to work long hours on rotating shifts with occasional overtime as required; ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; completed BLET; prior law enforcement experience is preferred

Hiring Range is $51,540 to $64,366 depending on education and experience

Police Officer Trainee

Police Dept. – 911 Telecom

The Pineville Police Department is currently recruiting for a Full Time Telecommunicator. Under the general supervision of the Telecommunicator Supervisor, the Telecommunicator operates telecommunication equipment in the receipt and transmission of police, fire and other calls. Telecommunicator perform technical work in monitoring multi-channel telecommunications equipment to dispatch police, fire, first responders or other personnel and equipment in response to emergency and non-emergency calls on an assigned shift. Employees in this class receive complaints and other forms of communications from the general public where appropriate, contacts the units to be dispatched, giving the type and location of the emergency and other pertinent information.

Current starting pay w/out experience $18.33/hour, higher with prior experience

Eligible for full Town benefits and retirement, bonuses, employee wellness and appreciation programs. This job also qualifies for a Sign-on Bonus! Also, a pay increase for bi-lingual employees.

Parks Maintenance Technician

The Parks Maintenance position is responsible for building maintenance of the park’s facilities and overall upkeep of the parks and grounds. The candidate must be able to diagnose turf and plant problems and implement control procedures or have a willingness to learn. The position is also responsible, but not limited to mowing, aerating, fertilizing, seeding, weeding, edging of turf area, planting and pruning of trees, shrubs, ground covers and flowers, applying pesticides, fertilizers, soil amendments, dragging and lining the fields, park inspections and housekeeping of the parks grounds.

It is preferred that the candidate have parks maintenance, landscaping and/or prior turf or golf course experience. Should also have buildings maintenance experience, and must be able to work a flexible non-traditional work week which will include nights, weekends and holidays.

Prospective candidates must have a valid NC or SC driver’s license, a NC Core and Turf Ornamental Pesticide’s license or the ability to obtain one within the first 6 months of employment. Must also be able to work in a fast-paced environment, in extreme climates and commit to the hours needed for the position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must have a High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and have 1-2 years of parks maintenance, landscaping or prior turf/golf course experience

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have either a valid North Carolina or South Carolina’s driver’s license and be able to maintain a safe driving record

Must obtain ornamental and turf pesticide license within 6 months of employment

Must keep all pesticide and other licenses up to date as required for the position

Must be able to work in environmental conditions that require both inside and outside work

Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Systems Technician or Apprentice

Troubleshoots and repairs residential and business telephone system lines and equipment

  • Operates test equipment to isolate problems
  • Splices cable
  • Repairs cable pairs, jacks, lines, fiber drops

Installs new residential and business telephone service

  • Pulls new fiber into businesses by means of conduit or other methods
  • Installs new cable pairs and jacks

Perform telephone work orders including installing service lines, jacks, phones and other related equipment

Installs and maintains data circuit

Installs and maintains fiber optic lines, IP networks and IPTV networks

Validates and tests end to end service provisioning for outside plant fiber/copper networks

Responsible for new construction, operation and maintenance of buried/aerial cable

Serves as a company representative when interacting with internal and external customers

Works with team members to carry-out work orders efficiently and effectively

Cultivates productive relationships with Customer Service Representatives in order to provide optimal customer service

Communicates any system failures or abnormalities to management and other group members

Responsible for keeping up to date with new information and technology related to the telephone or internet

Periodic on-call duties for after hour emergencies

Responsible for understanding in-house equipment and wiring

Responsible for adhering to company guidelines to ensure customer privacy

Installs, maintains and supports copper, fiber, VOIP, and FTTH

Installs, designs and supports T1 circuits, DSL, VDSL and HDSL

Replace traditional copper pairs to the home with updated G-PON FTTH networks

Responsible for splicing fiber optic and cables of various sizes

Installs inside/outside plant fiber optic and copper networks

Responsible for fiber optic and copper terminations on cross connects, patch panels, hubs and routers

Validates and tests end to end service provisioning for outside plant fiber/copper networks

Performs data testing using OTDR and other test equipment

Responsible for new construction, operation and maintenance of buried/aerial cable

Responsible for climbing poles, ladders and other structures deemed necessary to install and maintain service

Required to enter confined spaces such as crawl spaces and manholes deemed necessary to install and maintain service

Operates bucket equipment to ascend to high wires

Operates trencher and other work equipment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Some knowledge and ability to learn of the principles and practices of telephone, internet and cable, construction, digital and computer equipment; basic knowledge of the policies and procedures governing telephone and internet;  knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions as required for best practices; basic knowledge as related to both hardware and software related to electrical equipment; systems and related equipment; ability to troubleshoot complex issues and resolve technical issues; ability to document and communicate progress and completion of work orders and requests; ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, management, public officials, vendors and customers

The Town of Pineville offers a comprehensive benefits package which includes paid Medical, Dental and Vision coverage, a Health Reimbursement Arrangement, as well as an Employee Assistance Program. These are provided at no cost to the employee with an option to purchase additional insurance for dependents. The Town of Pineville is part of the North Carolina Retirement System and as a condition of employment, 6% of every employee’s salary is deducted from their paychecks for the retirement fund. The Town contributes at set rates that are more than double the employee’s contribution rate, so your retirement savings add up fast! This is a defined benefit plan and an employee’s retirement is based upon years of credited service.  An employee is fully vested after five years of credited service.

We also offer a voluntary 401(k), defined contribution plan, with the Town matching up to 5% of an employee’s contribution.  Sworn law enforcement personnel will automatically receive a 5% match regardless of their own contributions. Once enrolled, an employee is vested immediately.
